Procedure:
A saturated solution was made in a 125 ml Erlenmeyer flask by placing about 50ml of solvent into the flask and adding additional solute while hand swirling until no more solute dissolved. Start time: 2:00
A sonicator was used to make sure that all the solution was saturated when no more solute appeared to go into solution by hand swirling. 2:47
Four centrifuged tubes were filled with approximately 6 ml of saturated solution. Each tube was centrifuged for about 3 minutes.
The masses of four empty and clean test tubes were taken by taring an unused Erlenmeyer flask and setting the tube inside. Masses were recorded. 2:55
A precise volume of saturated solution was transferred into the test tubes. Volumes were recorded. 3:01
The masses of the four test tubes containing the saturated solution were measured using the same Erlenmeyer flask. Masses were recorded. 3:10
A hot water bath was used to boil off all solvent in each test tube. 3:15
The masses of all four test tubes containing the solute were measured. Masses were recorded. 3:54
The masses of test tubes were reweighed after a few days to account for prolonged evaporation. No change or the masses were recorded.
