Objective

To test the solubility of 2,4,6-Trihydroxy benzoic acid in six solvents: Methanol, Ethanol, Acetonitrile, THF, Toluene, and DMSO by NMR spectroscopy.

Discussion

Conclusion

It was observed that the compound 2,4,6-Trihydroxy benzoic acid was a monohydrate. Therefore, NMR test was impossible to perform.

11:50 Labelled new one dram vials A1-F1.
11:55 Filled vials with small amount of solute and pipetted 100uL of the six major solvents; namely: Methanol, Ethanol, Acetonitrile, THF, Toluene and DMSO and vortexed them for 15-20 seconds.
12:20 Sonicated the vials A1-F1 for 30 minutes. Temp recorded- 24C.
12:50 Removed the vials from the sonicator.
13:03 Took pic-A after sonification.
13:04 Centrifuged the vials for 2 minutes.
13:06 Removed vials from centrifugation.
13:10 Observed clear distinction of the solute from the solvent in each vial before taking pic-B.

Transfered the supernatent from vials A1-F1 into A2-F2.
