Solubility book (3rd Edn)
To determine the solubility at room temperature of benzoic acid in ethanol/water(40:60)vol via the shake plate method
This experiment was stopped because not enough solute was put in initially. This same ratio will be measured again using a water bath for temperature control.
11:30 - Added 0.0235g of benzoic acid into a 1-dram vial
11:46 - Created a mixture of ethanol/water in 40:60 volume by weighing out 3.12g of ethanol and 6g of water (this accounts for the 40:60 volume due to each solvent's density)
11:58 - Added about 0.5mL of the solvent mixture into the vial
12:00 - Taped the vial to the shake plate and turned the plate to setting 2
11:24 - The shake plate was turned off and the vial was removed
11:25 - No crystals appeared at the bottom of the vial. The vial was set to cool down to room temperature
